24 hours later
We drove all night. For the first time at that. It was the kid's idea, Sarah's actually and we considered it. At 6pm, the deadline to cancel our hotel, we made the decision and went for it. We switched off in 3-4 hour shifts. I drove a long shift from 1:30 to 6:30 which went quite well. Anita not being able to sleep, was problematic but she was able to take over and get us to Florida for breakfast. The night shift presented us with a precarious and fortunately short lived predicament. A car followed us for some time, perhaps 30 minutes, not dangerously, or even anything out of the normal other than the fact he didn't weave all over and speed up/slow down like most other drivers on I95.

So, it came time for a rest stop and I pulled off, noticing that he pulled off too, and then into the same station we did. This concerned me so spidey senses kicked in and I drove entirely around the lot and he followed. I then pulled into a gas bay and he followed, I pulled right out and over to a parking spot and again followed. So we stayed in the car for a few minutes and he must have finally realized we were on to him. He then left and sped off. I locked the fam in the car to go to the bathroom as quick as possible. Good thing the rest stop was well lit and full of people despite the time of 3:30 am. When I came back, Anita said she saw him drive by and head back to the interstate, which again concerned us. She mentioned that maybe this guy was looking for a 'new' car or something potentially worse. We saw blue lights of a state trooper as we were pulling out and I decided to drive to him and seek advice. Lo and behold, the smokey had pulled over the car in question which was a huge relief!

So here we are now, Anita driving the last leg, with about 70kms to go to Sarasota. It's 29 degrees and sunny now. Should be a delightful afternoon and having driven all night allows us some sun and rest time and to boot, we saved ourselves $80 in hotel costs. The pool awaits.
